How to download Instagram videos

Use the public post link. This guide is for feed videos, not Reels, stories, or private accounts.

Copy the public post link

On a phone

  1. Open the video in Instagram.
  2. Tap the share icon or the three dots on the post.
  3. Tap Copy link.

Keep only the https:// address if a caption was copied with it.

On a computer

Open the post in a browser and copy the address bar. A working link looks like instagram.com/p/ or instagram.com/tv/ plus a short code. A profile URL is not enough.

Paste the link in a browser

Open the Instagram video downloader, paste the URL, and press Download. Save the file the browser offers. You can do this on a phone or a computer. ReelFetch does not ask you to sign in.

Which Instagram links contain a video

  • /p/ — ordinary feed posts, including carousels that have a video slide
  • /tv/ — older long-form videos

Photo-only slides are skipped. A /reel/ link is a Reel; use how to download Instagram Reels instead.

What this method cannot do

Private accounts, Close Friends posts, stories, and deleted posts cannot be retrieved. ReelFetch does not enlarge the video or add audio Instagram did not send. Save a file only when you have the right to keep it. See copyright and responsible use.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download an Instagram video on my phone?

Yes. Copy the public post link, open ReelFetch in a mobile browser, paste the URL, and save the file. You do not need a separate downloader app.

Does this work for Reels too?

Reels use a different URL. Use a link that contains /reel/ or /reels/, or follow the Reels guide. Feed videos use /p/ or /tv/.
